-Clogging of water pipes: This is usually as a result of deposits left by hard water in the water pipes; these deposits are called ‘scum’ and they block up pipes. Scum is a whitish color and is produced when the pipes heat. This causes problems in the flow of water into a home

-Formation of scuds: This is what occurs when cleaning soap does not lather and in turn produces a white precipitate known as scud.

-Perpetual Stains: Spots on your cookware, kitchen appliances and sinks from the dissolved minerals and chemicals. These stains are also on the tiles at home and the baths.

-Damages to appliances: More specifically, to heating devices such as water heaters and dishwashers. The deposits of scales in these appliances cut short their lifespan. Another effect is your dishwasher leaving a white film on your cleaned dishes.

-Affects Personal Hygiene: after a bath, it is difficult to feel clean as there is a soapy film which remains on the skin. This leaves the skin feeling dry. The effects are not simply limited to your skin but also the hair. The filmy residue makes the hair look dull and feel limp. Your clothing is not left away either as the lifespan of clothes is reduced with repeated washing.

-Higher Utility Bills: Scales does not conduct electricity well which means that more energy is needed to heat water, which in turn results in increased electricity bills.
